Fanad Head Lighthouse, established in 1817, marks the entrance to Lough Swilly, a natural harbor of refuge on the Donegal coast. Its construction was prompted by the tragic shipwreck of the HMS Saldanha in 1812. Automated since 1983, the lighthouse has become a popular tourist destination, offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding Atlantic waters.
