Chatham Light

Chatham Light

Perched at the southeastern tip of Cape Cod, Chatham Light has stood as a crucial aid to navigation since it was first established in 1808. Originally part of a twin-light system, the station has undergone multiple transformations to adapt to the ever-changing coastline. Positioned near Chatham Bar and the shifting shoals of Monomoy, the lighthouse has long served as a lifeline for mariners navigating the unpredictable waters where Nantucket Sound meets the Atlantic.

Over the years, Chatham Light has been instrumental in warning ships of the hazardous sandbars and strong currents that define this stretch of Cape Cod. The lighthouse has evolved with advancements in maritime technology, yet its mission remains unchanged—to ensure safe passage along one of New England’s most challenging coastal routes. Standing as both a historic landmark and an active navigational beacon, it remains an enduring symbol of the region’s deep-rooted maritime heritage.
