Boston Light
Located on Little Brewster Island in Boston Harbor, Boston Light holds the distinction of being the oldest lighthouse in North America, first lit in 1716. Although the original tower was destroyed during the American Revolution, the current structure was rebuilt in 1783 and has remained a steadfast guide for mariners navigating the busy waters of the harbor.
This iconic lighthouse is renowned for its historical significance, not only as a critical navigational aid but also as the last lighthouse in the United States to maintain a full-time keeper, even as other lighthouses transitioned to automation. For over 300 years, Boston Light has been a beacon of safety, symbolizing the region’s deep maritime heritage and continuing to serve as a vital point of reference for ships entering one of the nation’s busiest harbors.
