Pigeon Point
Pigeon Point Lighthouse, standing along California’s rugged coastline, is one of the tallest lighthouses on the West Coast at 115 feet (35 meters). It was named after the “Carrier Pigeon”, a clipper ship that wrecked offshore in 1853—though the entire crew was rescued, the vessel was lost, and the area became known as Pigeon Point in its memory.
Since its completion in 1872, this historic lighthouse has guided ships along the treacherous waters south of San Francisco, helping mariners navigate the Pacific’s unpredictable currents. Today, Pigeon Point Lighthouse remains one of the most iconic and enduring landmarks on the California coast.
