Nauset Light
Nauset Light, perched on the bluffs of Eastham on Cape Cod, is one of the most recognizable lighthouses in Massachusetts. First lit in 1923, this lighthouse was originally constructed to replace the iconic Three Sisters lighthouses, which were moved to a different location to preserve the safety of mariners navigating the treacherous waters off the Cape’s outer shore. Nauset Light’s striking red and white tower has since become an enduring symbol of Cape Cod’s maritime heritage.
Located near the entrance to Cape Cod Bay, Nauset Light has been essential in helping guide vessels safely around the shifting sands and unpredictable tides of the Cape’s eastern coast. Over the years, the lighthouse has been relocated to a safer position due to coastal erosion, ensuring its continued function in aiding navigation. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Cape Cod National Seashore, Nauset Light remains a beloved beacon and a testament to the region’s commitment to maritime safety.
