Loggerhead
Loggerhead Lighthouse stands tall at 150 feet (46 meters) on Loggerhead Key in the remote Dry Tortugas, guiding vessels through the perilous waters of the Florida Straits since 1858. Known for being the most isolated lighthouse in the United States, it is situated farther from the mainland than any other lighthouse in the world, perched alone on an uninhabited tropical island in the Gulf of Mexico.
For over a century, the lighthouse helped mariners navigate the dangerous reefs and unpredictable currents surrounding the Dry Tortugas. Though now decommissioned, Loggerhead Lighthouse remains a historic symbol of maritime safety and endurance in one of the most secluded and beautiful corners of the United States. Its legacy as a steadfast guardian of the Gulf waters endures, despite the lighthouse’s isolation.
