Clare Island
Clare Island Lighthouse, built in 1818, guards the entrance to Clew Bay off the coast of County Mayo. The island itself is famous for being the home of the legendary pirate queen Gráinne O’Malley. The lighthouse was decommissioned in 1965 following a fire. Today, it stands as a historical marker on this rugged, mountainous island, which continues to attract visitors drawn to its wild beauty.
