Straw Island
Slyne Head lighthouse, built in 1836 was the last of four lighthouses built in the 19th century on the Aran Islands. Originally part of a twin lighthouse system, the west lighthouse remains active today and is one of only two black lighthouses in Ireland. Automated in 1990, Slyne Head continues to serve as a beacon on the often treacherous Atlantic coast, guiding vessels safely through the area.
