Nauset Light
Standing atop the coastal bluffs of Eastham, Nauset Light has been a critical navigational aid along Cape Cod’s outer shore since it was first lit in 1923. Built to replace the nearby Three Sisters lighthouses, which had become less effective due to shifting sands, this striking beacon has helped mariners safely navigate the ever-changing waters of the Atlantic. Its distinctive tower has made it one of the most recognizable lighthouses in Massachusetts.
Nauset Light plays an essential role in guiding vessels past the unpredictable currents and shifting shoals of the Cape’s eastern coastline. Coastal erosion has forced the lighthouse to be relocated further inland, preserving its ability to serve as a warning to ships traveling through the often-dangerous waters. With its long history and continued importance to navigation, it remains a steadfast symbol of Cape Cod’s maritime heritage.
