Dating back to the late 1700s, Duncannon Fort Lighthouse stands at the entrance to Waterford Harbour beside the historic coastal fort. In 1810, it became one of fourteen coastal lights transferred to the Ballast Board — the predecessor of the Commissioners of Irish Lights — when the board took responsibility for Ireland’s shore lighting. The lighthouse continues to guide ships safely into the harbour.
