Wicklow
Wicklow Head Lighthouse was built in 1781 and stands as a sentinel over County Wicklow’s rugged coastline. Originally one of two towers designed to help mariners distinguish it from other lights along the east coast. Known as the rear lighthouse, originally 2 towers were built to distinguish Wicklow Head from Howth and Hook Head. It became a daymark after a lightning strike damaged it in 1836. Today, the lighthouse is a landmark of Ireland’s maritime history, keeping watch over the Irish Sea.
