Sandy Hook

Sandy Hook Lighthouse, located in New Jersey, has stood as a vital maritime beacon since 1764, making it the oldest lighthouse still in operation in the United States. Originally, the lighthouse was positioned just 500 feet (150 meters) from the tip of Sandy Hook, but over the centuries, the coastline has shifted dramatically due to littoral drift. Today, the lighthouse stands approximately one and a half miles (2.4 km) inland, a testament to the natural forces that have reshaped the landscape.

The lighthouse has long been a symbol of safety for sailors navigating the waters of New York Harbor, guiding ships around the treacherous shoals and currents of the Jersey Shore. Its enduring presence, despite the shifting coastline, reflects its vital role in the region’s maritime history. Surrounded by the scenic beauty of the Sandy Hook Unit of Gateway National Recreation Area, the lighthouse remains a lasting reminder of New Jersey’s nautical heritage.

Sizing

Available in 2 sizes mounted only or framed measuring:

The art print comes mounted in a heavy board with backing.

The mounted print comes wrapped in a cellophane bag for extra protection and include their own story and some fun facts on an insert.

All mounted prints are also available in a white solid wood frame. The frame measures 20mm deep and has a 20mm wide border. Our frames are made locally here in Ireland and constructed out of hardwood and painted white.

Material

Printed with archival pigment ink on 290gr art paper with a slightly textured silk finish.

Pigment inks are designed to be stable over long periods of time, allowing prints to be displayed (under proper conditions) for many decades.

All mounts and backing boards are lignin-free, alkaline-sized, pH neutral and are calcium carbonate buffered to enhance their useful lifespan by minimising the effect of atmospheric pollutants.

Care instructions

Avoid hanging in direct sunlight as this may cause the colours to fade and affect the paper.
