The Graves
Situated at the entrance to Boston Harbor, Graves Light has been an essential navigational aid since it was first lit in 1905. This towering structure is the tallest lighthouse on the approaches to the Port of Boston, guiding vessels through the often-hazardous waters of the Massachusetts Bay. Positioned on the isolated and rocky Graves Ledge, the lighthouse has played a pivotal role in ensuring safe passage for ships entering one of the busiest ports in the United States.
The lighthouse’s towering height and its strategic location make it a critical part of the region’s maritime infrastructure. Over the years, it has withstood harsh weather conditions and the challenges of maintaining a lighthouse on a rocky island. Despite the difficulties of its remote location, Graves Light continues to serve as a vital beacon for mariners and a historic landmark for the city of Boston.
