The Graves

The Graves

The Graves Lighthouse stands as the tallest lighthouse in the approaches to the Port of Boston, guiding ships safely through the often treacherous waters of Massachusetts Bay. First lit in 1905, the lighthouse was constructed on a small, rocky island known as the Graves and plays a critical role in ensuring safe passage for vessels entering one of the busiest ports in the United States. At 136 feet tall, its towering structure rises above the waves, offering visibility to mariners navigating the challenging waters of the New England coastline.

The Graves Lighthouse has long been an essential marker for sailors, warning of the dangerous rocks and shoals that surround the entrance to Boston Harbor. Its impressive height and strategic location have made it a key part of the region’s maritime history, and it remains an iconic feature in the rich nautical heritage of Massachusetts.
