Halfway Rock

Halfway Rock

Located between Cape Elizabeth and Cape Small in Casco Bay, Halfway Rock Lighthouse has been a vital navigational aid since it was first lit in 1871. The lighthouse was built to mark a crucial point halfway between these two capes, ensuring mariners could safely navigate through the rocky waters and islands that dot the bay. The lighthouse’s remote location on a small island adds to its significance as a guidepost in one of Maine’s busiest and most challenging coastal regions.

Standing tall against the rough Atlantic elements, Halfway Rock Light continues to serve as a beacon of safety for ships traveling along this stretch of coastline. Its enduring presence is a reminder of the vital role that lighthouses have played in guiding maritime traffic through the dangerous waters of New England. Despite its isolation, the lighthouse remains an iconic symbol of Maine’s maritime heritage.
