Duncannon Fort
Dating back to the late 1700s, Duncannon Fort Lighthouse stands beside the old coastal fort at the mouth of Waterford Harbour. In 1810, it became one of fourteen coastal lights transferred to the Ballast Board — the predecessor of the Commissioners of Irish Lights — when the board took responsibility for Ireland’s shore lighting. The lighthouse marks the sand bar that stretches from one shore of the river to the other, guiding vessels safely through the harbour entrance.
